About Position

Centre of Excellence for Persons with Autism:-

The Centre of Excellence for Persons with Autism is an Institution launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu and registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975. The Centre’s mandate is to deliver comprehensive, integrated and accessible services that empower individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and support their families across Tamil Nadu. Adopting a multidisciplinary, life-cycle approach, the Centre addresses the unique needs of individuals with ASD across all age groups, from early identification and early intervention in young children, to specialized education, skill development, vocational training and sustainable livelihood support for adolescents and adults. Through evidence-based practices, specialized care and cross-sectoral collaboration, the Centre strives to build an inclusive society where individuals with Autism can achieve their maximum potential and lead dignified, independent lives.

Location:-Based in Chennai Occasional travel across India as required (infrequent/as needed)


Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Deliver daily individual and group therapy sessions focusing on fine/gross motor skills, activities of daily living (ADLs) and emotional regulation.

• Use Evaluation tools and Therapeutic techniques like sensory integration or cognitive rehabilitation to create individualized Intervention plans.

• Perform initial functional evaluations to identify sensory, motor and cognitive barriers using standardized assessment tools.

• Update patient progress logs daily and maintain accurate records to maintain transparency with the Centre’s management.

• Maintain confidentiality of patient records, when needed.

• Utilize the therapy rooms to implement grounding and desensitization strategies for sensory-seeking or avoidant individuals.

• Educate parents and family members on executing accessible, structured home-therapy programs Participate in weekly case discussions with speech therapists, 

•physiotherapists and special educators to align patient care tracks.

• Assist with handwriting, classroom attention, organization and classroom adaptation.

• Suggest the usage of splints, sealing systems, modified utensils and assistive technology, when needed.

• Work with Children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disorders.

• Adhere to professional compliance of standards set by recognized bodies. 

 

Qualification Description

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT)

Experience Description

Minimum 3 years of overall experience, with 1 year specifically in Autism care
